one of the little ways that we are trying to love to our community is by regularly opening up our home (well, our home is always open, but this is more aggressive inviting) to Ana and Pablo - - the children of one of our neighbors.
When Ana comes over, she loves to feed Selma and decorate sugar cookies
When Pablo (one of Malachai's classmates) comes over, he loves to sing Christmas carols at the top of his lungs and and to incite Malachai to a state of excited frenzy (although, who are we kidding? Malachai doesn't really need anyone to do that for him; he gets there on his own)
Pablo doesn't really like to decorate sugar cookies, but sometimes we make him do it anyways. just a little. and then I let them be crazy.I wonder how some of you are showing love to your communities? please share!

this week I'm thinking about bread for "Mr. Dan" who lives on the corner and a purposeful visit with him when Amaleah and Julia come on Thursday. Dan seems to delight to see the girls as he works among all his plants on the corner. Last time he gave Julia a cactus and Amaleah a plant with a large white blooming flower which he called "angels trumpet ballerina white as snow"-a name which A. remembers perfectly!

I have happy memories of making heart sugar cookies with you - you seem to make a master piece out of each cookie. You are good at that - making people feel at home, a part of the group making fab memories

I've been helping an elderly neighbor by cleaning for him, doing laundry etc. He's been getting worse and needing lots more help. Yesterday, I finally convinced him to go to the hospital and sat with him for 8 hrs until he was put into a regular room. It's been good to minister to him and hopefully we'll be able to talk more about eternity in days/weeks to come.

We just moved in so right now, it is saying hello and Ciao every chance we get and dragging poor May out with me to be a conversation starter. They seem to love her and a first impression started with wide smiles is remembered well, I hope. :)
Other than that, may I suggest struggling with new shutters on the window that faces your neighbor's house while she is outside? She will run over and come right in to help you out nad then have a short chat.
