a cakestand, a suitcase, and free flowers

I got a cake stand for my birthday . . . isn't it pretty? Rachel has an uncanny ability to get you the gift you've been longing for for years - - and she usually ups it a notch too - - choosing, for example, a cake stand ten times classier than the one you yourself had imagined:
Malachai and I went to the trastero ( our 10x10 storage room down in the garage) yesterday to pull out one more suitcase, and on our way we saw these geraniums that one of our neighbors had thrown down onto the sidewalk - - cleaning out the shabby ones, I guess. They weren't too shabby for us, though (we're easy to please); we picked them right up and stuck them on on our table. We don't need them to last too long anyways;
just a couple of days . . .
Tuesday we drive to Madrid to fly to Dallas

Naomi,

You are teaching Malachai such an important thing about life. You can find beauty and joy in life in small ways.

We will be praying for a quick, peaceful, and uneventful flight!

Have a wonderful visit with your family. I know you are looking forward to seeing your "church" family too!!

Love,

Ginny

I was shopping with Rachel when she chose that elegant cakestand just for you, Naomi-and then accomodating its unique shape in the suitcase for the journey across the ocean. Speaking of a journey, what's your schedule? We didn't realize that you're leaving this week for Texas. We'll keep the lights burning for ya.

hehe, I could have used a cake-stand today. :) I made the chocolate cake on Friday (frosting it took forever). We ate it-part of it-today. Everyone loved it and my MIL asked for the recipe as well. It was pretty funny though when I was making it because I asked Phil to pick up a Guiness for me (they didn't have anything strong enough in the grocery store) and I happened to mention that the sour cream I purchased was for the cake as well. He said, "You're making a SOUR CREAM AND BEER CAKE for my sister?!?!" I just laughed and said "yup!" He gave me many compliments when he ate it but was pretty skeptical before hand. It made me laugh. Thanks for sharing.

Hope your trip to the States goes smoothly. I'm sure everyone will love meeting Selma for the first time.

Hey Naomi,
It is Kristin Cameron (former take 12er), now Grissom, and your blog stalker. Sarah gave me the link quite a while back. Sorry I am just now commenting. I love keeping up wiht you guys...how long will you be in Dallas? My husband and I live just north of Dallas.
